OF LOVE AND RELATIONSHIPS - 08102010

“He knew that “I love you” also means “I love you more than anyone loves you, or has loved you, or will love you,” and also, “I love you in a way that I love no one else, and never have loved anyone else, and never will love anyone else.” — Jonathan Safran Foer, Everything Is Illuminated

“If you love someone, tell him or her. Forget about the rules or the fear of looking ridiculous. What is truly ridiculous is passing up on an opportunity to tell someone that your heart is invested in him or her.” — Goodmorning & Goodnight

Today is all we have. Speak what is in your heart, you may not have tomorrow to be able to tell someone what you are feeling.

“There comes a time in every life when the world gets quiet and the only thing left is your own heart. So you’d better learn to know the sound of it. Otherwise you’ll never understand what it’s saying.” ~ Sarah Dessen, Just Listen

“That’s the problem with us. We’re both stubborn asses and always want to get our way. We both hate to be wrong and love to be right. But that’s the thing about love. No matter what happens, we always come back for each other, one more time.” — The Notebook

“I have loved only you, surrendered my whole self reckless to you and nobody else. That I want you to love me back and show it to me. That I love the way you hold me, how close you let me be to you. I like your fingers on and on, lifting, turning. I have watched your face for a long time now, and missed your eyes when you went away from me. Talking to you and hearing you answer—that’s the kick. But I can’t say that aloud; I can’t tell anyone that I have been waiting for this all my life and that being chosen to wait is the reason I can. If I were able I’d say it. Say make me, remake me. You are free to do it and I am free to let you because look, look. Look where your hands are. Now.” — Toni Morrison, Jazz

“I’ve been waiting my whole life for the right guy to come along and then you showed up. And you are nothing like the man I imagined. You’re cynical, and cranky, and impossible. But the truth is, fighting with you is the best thing that’s ever happened to me. And I think there’s a very good chance that I’m falling in love with you.” — 27 Dresses

Distance really sucks. But what sucks more is if you make that as worst problem. Let distance be another reason to love harder than any couple should. Staying in a relationship is a choice not a decision. Getting out of it is always a decision never a choice.

“I would rather share one lifetime with you than face all the ages of this world alone.” -Lord of the Rings

“I love that you get cold when it’s 71 degrees out. I love that it takes you an hour and a half to order a sandwich. I love that you get a little crinkle above your nose when you’re looking at me like I’m nuts. I love that after I spend the day with you, I can still smell your perfume on my clothes. And I love that you are the last person I want to talk to before I go to sleep at night. And it’s not because I’m lonely, and it’s not because it’s New Year’s Eve. I came here tonight because when you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible.” — Harry Burns, When Harry Met Sally

Love should be as a flower of the weedy sort — they break through sidewalk cement, and persist.

“Bottom line is that couples that are truly right for each other wade through the same crap as everybody else. But the big difference is they don’t let it take them down.” — Scrubs

“We’re all going to die, all of us, what a circus! That alone should make us love each other but it doesn’t. We are terrorized and flattened by trivialities, we are eaten up by nothing.” — Charles Bukowski

“The greatest love story ever told is your own.” - Letters to Juliet

“Love is a temporary madness, it erupts like volcanoes and then subsides. And when it subsides, you have to make a decision. You have to work out whether your roots have so entwined together that it is inconceivable that you should ever part. Because this is what love is. Love is not breathlessness, it is not excitement, it is not the promulgation of promises of eternal passion, it is not the desire to mate every second minute of the day, it is not lying awake at night imagining that he is kissing every cranny of your body. No, don’t blush, I am telling you some truths. That is just being “in love”, which any fool can do. Love itself is what is left over when being in love has burned away, and this is both an art and a fortunate accident.” — Louis de Bernières

“We’ve got to learn hard things in our lifetime, but it’s love that gives you the strength. It’s being nice to people and having a lot of fun and laughing harder than anything, hopefully every single day of your life.” — Drew Barrymore

“You don’t love someone because they’re perfect. You love them inspite of the fact that they’re not.” — Jodi Picoult, My Sister’s Keeper

I’ve learned that you should always leave loved ones with loving words. It may be the last time you see them.

“Life has taught us that love does not consist in gazing at each other, but in looking outward together in the same direction.” — Antoine de Saint-Exupery
